World Teachers’ Day — October 5, 2023
#TeachersCan is again marking World Teachers’ Day to honor teachers for being a guiding light for our students, our communities, and our state.
Texas teachers continue to adapt to a new normal. They remain relentlessly optimistic. They continue to persevere under difficult circumstances. They continue to prioritize students and families.
That’s why we honor them every year for World Teachers’ Day, and throughout the year.
In 2022, Texans showed the world just how much we care about our teachers. More than 125 proclamations were issued by mayors and city councils across Texas — four times the number from 2021. More than 60 prominent buildings were lit up all over the state — more than twice the number in 2021. And people and organizations displayed #TeachersCan blue ribbons around trees, throughout neighborhoods, at their businesses, and on school campuses across Texas – all in honor of teachers. #TeachersCan partners and Texans collectively helped raise $3.1 million through DonorsChoose campaigns leading up to World Teachers’ Day. Contact us to learn more and to get involved!
And, this year, we invite everyone – teachers, students, educators, supporters – to participate and can show their support in various ways.
Did you know?
The color blue holds special meaning for the #TeachersCan movement. In higher education, a light blue stole represents a degree in education. #TeachersCan pays tribute to the dedication of these scholars and educators by making light blue integral to campaign design elements.
Teachers need our support.
Here are a few ways you can step in and make a difference:

Illuminate Your Building
On Wednesday, October 5th, we would like to see as many iconic buildings as possible illuminated in light blue as a way to show our appreciation for our teachers who continue to be that bright, guiding light for our students during this dim and challenging time. Contact us to add your building to the list.

Display a Light Blue Ribbon
During the week of October 5, display a light blue ribbon outside your house or school to show your support of teachers. This is an easy way for you to say thanks to teachers in your community when they need our support the most. #TeachersCan branded ribbon is available for purchase here.
